SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday: Applying for a business loan — What is the bank looking for?
DESCRIPTION:Starting a business is hard. Finding fair financing should not be. In this active and welcoming session from BMO\, we will walk new and existing business owners through a clear path to getting a startup loan in Canada. You will learn how to choose the right product for your need\, how lenders decide on approvals\, and what simple steps can strengthen your application. We will explain key terms in plain English.  \n\n\n\nAccess to funding should never be out of reach\, especially for entrepreneurs who have historically been underserved.  \n\n\n\nWe will break down the different types of loans available\, explain what lenders look for\, and share practical steps that can help improve your chances of approval. \n\n\n\nThis session is designed to be active and engaging. We will use real examples\, open discussion time\, and simple explanations that make the loan process easier to understand. Whether you are starting something new or growing your current business\, you will learn what you need\, why lenders ask for certain documents\, and how we can work together to help you access the capital you deserve. \n\n\n\nOur goal is to make the process less confusing\, more inclusive\, and more successful for Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ founders. \n\n\n\nKey takeaways:Leave this session with a clear\, simple path to get your startup financed in Canada.  \n\n\n\nYou will learn how to choose the right product for your need\, how much to borrow and why\, and how lenders make approval decisions. We will show you\, in plain English\, how to prove repayment and present your business with confidence. You will hear/practice a short lender pitch. \n\n\n\nYou will understand what is different for startups and how to turn that into strengths. We will focus on the people\, the plan\, and proof that customers want what you sell. We will show you how owner equity\, early traction\, and collateral can improve your odds. We will also explain when a line of credit fits working capital\, when a term loan or lease fits equipment\, and when a government backed option like the Canada Small Business Financing Program may help a new business qualify. \n\n\n\n\n \n Our Team \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kevin Cao (He/Him) \n\n \n Senior Relationship Manager\, Business Banking \n \n \n \n BMO Bank of Montreal

SUMMARY:Rainbow Registered Presents: GENDERCRAFT
DESCRIPTION:A Deeper Dive on Gender Identity & Gender Expression\n\n\n\n\n\nGender Expression Applications \n\n\n\nThis module begins with a review of best practices related to supporting people with diverse gender identities in three areas: personal support\, institutional practices\, and environmental experiences. \n\n\n\nFollowing this review\, there is a brief discussion of current political realities facing people with diverse gender identities\, composed of discussing international context and reviewing current Canadian issues. \n\n\n\nThe bulk of the module will be a discussion of four scenarios. Each participant will have time to discuss two scenarios in detail\, and review the other two scenarios as part of a debrief. Each scenario has proposed discussion questions\, and most scenarios also include suggested scripts for practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Our Team \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n u003cp style=u0022text-align: leftu0022u003eu003cspan data-teams=u0022trueu0022u003eu003ciu003eEliot Newton is a genderqueer activist and educator who has been working in the 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion field for twelve years. SUMMARY:Rainbow Registered Presents: GENDERCRAFT
DESCRIPTION:A Deeper Dive on Gender Identity & Gender Expression\n\n\n\n\n\nGender Expression Fundamentals \n\n\n\nThis module is primarily concerned with deepening understanding of the term “gender expression”. \n\n\n\nIt explores some of the myriad ways identity can be expressed\, and reviews real-life examples of gender expression being restricted\, both formally and informally. The module connects gender expression to other intersectional factors of identity. Gender Expression Fundamentals concludes with three small action items and a discussion of “personal inventory” as preparation for engaging in allyship. There will also be time for Q&A. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Our Team \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n u003cp style=u0022text-align: leftu0022u003eu003cspan data-teams=u0022trueu0022u003eu003ciu003eEliot Newton is a genderqueer activist and educator who has been working in the 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion field for twelve years. SUMMARY:Rainbow Registered Presents: GENDERCRAFT
DESCRIPTION:A Deeper Dive on Gender Identity & Gender Expression\n\n\n\n\n\nGender Identity Applications \n\n\n\nThis module begins with a review of best practices related to supporting people with diverse gender identities in three areas: personal support\, institutional practices\, and environmental experiences. \n\n\n\nFollowing this review\, there is a brief discussion of current political realities facing people with diverse gender identities\, discussing international context and reviewing current Canadian issues. DESCRIPTION:A Deeper Dive on Gender Identity & Gender Expression\n\n\n\n\n\nGender Identity Fundamentals \n\n\n\nThis module is primarily concerned with deepening understanding of the term “gender identity”. It discusses five major components of gender identity: sense of self\, community identity\, societal influences\, biology\, and time. \n\n\n\nThe module proceeds to discuss intersectionality and the ways gender interacts with other aspects of identity. There is a brief discussion of pronouns\, and the distinction between pronouns and identity. The module continues with a detailed examination of cisgender privilege\, to ground the theoretical discussion and prepare participants to explore the scenarios in Module II.  \n\n\n\nGender Identity Fundamentals concludes by addressing current political context for trans people internationally and nationally\, and possible actions. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Our Team \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Eliot Newton (they|them) \n\n \n \n \n Genderbandit \n \n \n Eliot Newton is a genderqueer activist and educator who has been working in the 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion field for twelve years. Their work lives at the intersection of meaning\, care\, and grounded action. Pascale doesn’t help organizations “do better\,” but rather do differently\, with courage\, nuance\, and humanity. \nRooted in listening and pedagogy\, they create spaces where complex questions become accessible\, where mistakes are allowed\, and where learning happens together. Their approach is both structured and deeply embodied: clear frameworks without rigidity\, and constant care for the people walking the circle\, whether they are on a personal journey or showing up as allies. \nThrough workshops\, consultations\, and transformation projects\, Pascale supports individuals and organizations in moving from inclusive gestures to real\, lasting practices of belonging. Their work invites slowing down\, naming what truly matters\, and building environments where people can recognize themselves\, contribute\, and stay. A vision of change that respects the living world\, honors individual and collective stories\, and reminds us that belonging cannot be declared. It is cultivated\, through relationship. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Wren Bruce (she/her) \n\n \n Founder \n \n \n \n Bruce GEOinsights \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Wren Bruce (she/her) \n\n \n Founder \n \n \n \n Bruce GEOinsights \n \n \n Based in Nova Scotia\, Wren Bruce is the founder of Bruce GEOinsights [pronounced GEE-OH insights]\, a consultancy that adds business value to organizations either through geoscience consulting for the minerals industry or science communications for corporate buyers requiring advisory on climate\, energy\, and sustainability messaging. SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday: "No\, I don't want to move to Toronto": What People Get Wrong about Entrepreneurship in Small Places
DESCRIPTION:Ivy + Dean Consulting is a company that was founded in small cities that are often overlooked: Regina and Yellowknife. As they’ve grown the business\, Jacq and Risa have both regularly been asked variations of the question: ‘When will i+d open an office in Toronto?’ These questions usually come from people who have never lived outside of a metropolitan area. Join both Jacq and Risa as they share their stories as entrepreneurs and their core business ethos of staying (and nailing it!) right here at home.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Our Team \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jacq Brasseur (they/them) \n\n \n CEO & Principal Consultant \n \n \n \n Ivy + Dean Consulting \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Jacq Brasseur (they/them) \n\n \n CEO & Principal Consultant \n \n \n \n Ivy + Dean Consulting \n \n \n Originally from Yellowknife\, Jacq has over a decade of experience leading teams as a queer and non-binary professional. They co-founded what is now known as the Northern Mosaic Network\, the only 2SLGBTQ+ human service agency in the Northwest Territories\, and proudly served as the agency’s first Executive Director. Since then\, they have led various queer and trans agencies as either an Executive Director or Board Member\, including NWT Pride\, UR Pride Centre for Sexuality & Gender Diversity\, Fierté Canada Pride\, TransSask Support Services\, and The Enchanté Network. Currently\, Jacq volunteers their time as the Chair of the Saskatchewan Queer Entrepreneurs & Professionals\, an organization they co-founded. In 2021\, Jacq established Ivy + Dean Consulting\, a bilingual jacq -of-all-trades consulting firm designed to empower non-profit leadership to solve the unique problems faced by organizations in the Prairies and Northern Canada. They are the Chief Executive Officer + Principal Consultant\, which allows them to wear many “hats” to serve clients and lead the team. When Jacq isn’t busy working or volunteering\, you can find them drinking too much Diet Pepsi\, playing the most recent Zelda video game\, and spending time with their family. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Risa Payant (she/her) \n\n \n Chief Operations Officer & Principal Consultant \n \n \n \n Ivy + Dean Consulting \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Risa Payant (she/her) \n\n \n Chief Operations Officer & Principal Consultant \n \n \n \n Ivy + Dean Consulting \n \n \n Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan\, Risa is passionate about increasing capacity for oft-overlooked and misunderstood communities across Canada. In her last role before moving into the for-profit world\, Risa led Planned Parenthood Regina through a period of crisis. Risa is Ivy + Dean Consulting’s Chief Operations Officer + Principal Consultant\, a position that allows her to get nerdy about infrastructure development and building frameworks to ensure the business thrives. When she’s not working\, Risa is a travel-loving\, adventure-seeking bibliophile who finds joy in live music\, bold colours\, and the expansive prairie landscape. She lives in Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood with her wife and teenage daughters.
