Federal Funding Boosts 2SLGBTQI+ Economic Empowerment: CQCC Responds

News release - CQCC - federal funding to empower queer entrepreneurs

In response to the Government of Canada’s October 29, 2025 announcement of new funding for gender equality and 2SLGBTQI+ communities

Toronto, ON – Oct 30, 2025 – Canadian Queer Chamber of Commerce (CQCC) welcomes the Government of Canada’s renewed and expanded commitment to gender equality and 2SLGBTQI+ communities, announced on October 29 by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, and the Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister for Women and Gender Equality.

This historic investment of $660.5 million over five years, including $54.6 million dedicated to 2SLGBTQI+ communities, marks a vital step toward continuing support to build a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient Canada.

“As the national voice for 2SLGBTQI+ businesses, CQCC knows that economic empowerment is inseparable from social justice,” said Darrell Schuurman, CEO of CQCC. “This is a strong signal that Canada is ready to back the brilliance and resilience of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. We’re proud of the work we’ve done with partners across the country, and we’re ready to continue our efforts to ensure these investments translate into real opportunities.”

This investment is a direct response to years of advocacy, research, and community-building by a national ecosystem of individuals and organizations who have worked to elevate the voices and needs of queer business owners.

CQCC is committed to continued work alongside government, partners, and members to ensure these funds transform into tangible, measurable progress for 2SLGBTQI+ communities across Canada.
