Toronto, November 7, 2017 – The Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CQCC) has awarded its Business Leader of the Year Award to Maura Lawless, Executive Director of Toronto’s The 519.
The CQCC Business Leader of the Year Award celebrates an individual who has made a significant contribution to the 2SLGBTQI+ community in Canada.
Maura Lawless has worked hard to make diversity and inclusion a reality in her area of expertise, dedicating her professional and personal life to the advancement of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. By working to provide resources and opportunities to foster self-determination, civic engagement and community participation, she has helped to create a more open, welcoming, and overall better country to live and to do business.
“We are delighted to recognize Maura Lawless for the impact of her contribution at the centre. She and her team have provided a framework showing how sustainable, socially minded organizations can not only exist, but thrive and help drive economic growth for a city, province, and country,” said R. Bruce McDonald, co-founder and Chair of the CQCC.
The award was presented at the CQCC’s Black & White Gala in Toronto on November 2, 2017.
